Audience
ConsoleWeb analyticsAudienceWhat the report shows
Place starts on a world map and drills into country, region, and city. Beside that are browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and language. Browser and system can expand into versions. Each row has visitors, pageviews, bounce, average duration, and share.
New versus returning shows visitors, sessions, pageviews, duration, bounce, and conversions for both groups side by side. A new visitor is a session marked as first seen.
How to use it
Click a country, browser, or device to add that filter, then open sources or pages. The map can be hidden. Version breakdowns are for spotting one browser release, then checking Errors & frustration for errors on it. Counting is in Web metric definitions.
Limits
Strict privacy rotates the salt every day, so the same person cannot be tied across days. New versus returning is hidden, and the page points you at balanced mode in web settings. Place comes from the IP database. City is not always present; missing values show as empty.
FAQ
There is no cookie. How can there be new and returning visitors? In balanced mode a site-stable salt produces the visitor id, so the next visit is the same id. Strict mode changes the salt daily, so this comparison is not offered. See Visitors, users & identity.
Why doesn’t the count match the Globe map? Audience follows the header dates and deduplicates visitors. Globe counts sessions from the last hour up to the last 7 days.
Why doesn’t the visitor count match the people list? Audience counts visitor ids. People who have logged in and been merged are in People & user lookup. An anonymous visit does not appear there.
Visitors
Many visits from the same person roll up into one card. To set properties or build a segment for a logged-in user, go to People & user lookup. Do not look for an email address here.
ConsoleBehaviorVisitorsWhat the report shows
The list has visitor, country, channel, browser, system, device, pageviews, events, sessions, first seen, and last seen. You can search by a prefix of the visitor id.
The detail has session count, event count, average duration, an activity calendar for about the last four months, acquisition, place and device, frequent pages and events, multi-page journeys, and session history. If they used live chat, consultations are listed and the latest one can be opened. The visitor id is the same value chat uses. The short code is the first 6 characters. Someone still inside the recent activity window is marked online.
How to use it
From realtime, or from visitor context in chat, jump here to check the page trail. See Visitor context.
Limits
Strict privacy rotates the anonymous salt every day, so the same person cannot be joined across days. The whole page is unavailable until you switch the site to balanced mode in web settings. Viewers can read the list. Without chat permission, consultations say this role cannot view them.
FAQ
Why can’t I find a logged-in user? This page is indexed by visitor id. The profile, devices, and properties after login are on the people list. The two sides are matched through the identity link in Visitors, users & identity.
Is the activity calendar pageviews? No. It is activity counts per day for about the last four months, so you can see which days this person came. It is not a site-wide trend.
