People are limited by the header (platform or a single app) and by the project's counting mode (user, device, or session). See Counting modes.
People
| Metric | Window | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Active users | Selected dates | Distinct subjects with a start or a screen view. Daily is per day. A multi-day total does not deduplicate across days |
| Weekly and monthly active | Ending on the last day | Distinct actives in the previous 7 or 30 days |
| New users | Selected dates | Subjects seen for the first time. A reinstall is not a new user |
| Cumulative users | Through the last day | Subjects ever seen |
| One-time starters | Selected dates | New users who started only once. An older user who opens once today is not in this count |
On the cross-platform comparison, a person is new only on the platform where they first appeared. See Platforms.
Behavior and quality
- Starts: the count of
$app_start,$mp_launch, and$mp_show. Coming back to the foreground records another hot start only after the session timeout. The default is 30 seconds, and you can change it in App settings. - Engaged session: lasts at least 10 seconds, or includes at least two screens, or includes at least one key event. Engaged sessions per user divides that count by active users.
- Next-day retention: the share of new users who start again the next day. New users from the last day of the range wait until the next day is over.
- Crash-free users: 1 − crash users ÷ active users.
